Poem: Thieves of time
Posted on Thu 31 March 2022 in Other
O thieves of time, why do you steal from so many?
Knowing that our attention is worth just a few pennies.
You incite us to hate,
knowing fully that you control the debate.
You foster division,
as part of your growth vision.
Your tyranny has turned us into dopamine drones,
afraid of our thoughts and of being alone.
A worth measured by an abstract of the ego,
chasing quasi-status and unable to say no.
The tall, the handsome, the beautiful and voluminous busts,
these filtered deceptions meant to drive our lust.
We scream and yell that we are free,
but we are all now governed by privacy policies.
Your power and influence has made some believe you are tyrants,
a few fines and greased-pockets will initiate continued silence.
Knowing my data is worth more than me,
everybody is in this game with nowhere to flee.
Total disconnect would render us without friends,
Is madness the price of a principled end?
Our time is not ours, not anymore,
The modern pariah comes with a logo and culture, enticing us with furore.
In a future dystopia where you control the narrative,
we will only be able to think according to the shareholder's prerogative.
Where is the solution? Where to turn?
In our isolation, we can only yearn.
